Accidental Brilliance???

So based on what I read about BAGGYing, I decided I'd give it a whirl, so I just moisturizer & sealed my dry, flat ironed hair then placed a plasic cap over it for about 30 minutes. I get on YouTube & see that I was supposed to baggy with DAMP hair:-/ so feeling like I'd done it wrong I just tool the cap off to find that my hair was softer than I've ever felt it!!!!!

So idk if u can baggy on dry hair or not, but it does have some effect, for me at least!! So I politely replaced the plastic cap, topped w/ a stocking cap & my bonnet now beddy bye I go!!

Question do u think if I did this every night, my hair could eventually break?? I know too Kuching moisture can cause damage!?!?!

FOR STRETCHERS!!!

Dealing with your demarcation line can be difficult. The new growth you have is stronger than your relaxed ends and this makes handling it nightmarish at times, because it has a tendancy to break at the point where new growth and relaxer meet. However if you read the tips below they could just save you a lot of hair breakage and heart breakage.

1 WORK WITH YOUR CURL

Rather than fighting your natural kink, go with it. Use two strand twists/braid outs to style your hair.

2 DEEP CONDITION

If you are not deep conditioning already start now! You will find that over time as you deep condition the new growth will become softer and more manageable. For ways it increase the effectiveness of your deep conditioning visit Increase your Africurlology opposite and Boosting your Conditioners

3 HANDLE GENTLY/LOW MANLIPULATION

Use a wide tooth comb or better still finger comb. The less you handle your hair, the less chance there is of it breaking. Choose the hair style you wear carefully, be mindful that if it requires a lot of combing to achieve it, you are stressing out your hair with each stroke of the brush or comb.

4 BRAIDS/CORNROWS

Wearing braids/cornrows is an excellent way to minimise damage to your demarcation line. As the demarcation line is enclosed there is little chance of it being damaged.

5 NATURAL HAIR SOFTENERS

Consider using a home made natural hair softener to soften up your new growth, they contain ingredients such as Black strap Mollases and Coconut cream . When applied you will find your new growth softens up quickly making it easier to handle. For recipes and photos visit Natural Hair Softeners

6 HAIR DRYING METHODS

Applying leave-in conditioner, hair lotion and/or natural oil to damp hair after washing, and then letting your hair air dry will go a long way towards reducing the amount of poofiness at the root of your hair. Also using method such as the No! method of drying your hair may reduce poofiness at the root. Essentially you apply your "leave ins" and then shake your head from side to side as if your saying no. Afterwards you allow the hair to air dry. The key is not to use a towel to dry your hair, due to the fact it will frizz the hair and disturb the wet curl pattern. Visit Growing Natural hair "drying" section for a full explaintion of the and No! method.

7 ALOE VERA

Using pure Aloe vera gel on your new growth when it is soaking wet after washing and conditioning can be a way of minimising the texture difference from new growth to relaxed ends. Ideally air dry afterwards. As with any product used on your hair results can vary.

8 OCCASIONAL HEAT

If you really need to wear your hair straight , roller set , dry and then flat iron your roots. Do no use the flat iron again during the week. To maintain your hair wrap it at night, use a silky scarf, moisturise and seal your hair daily. There are pitfalls with this method as you may be tempted to use hair straightners daily, which will simply lead to more hair breakage. Generally speaking this method should be reserved for hair that has good elastisity and is in good condition. If your hair currenly breaks at the slightest touch do not use this method instead visit How to stop Black Hair breakage

9 Anti-frizz Serum

Apply anti frizz serum to soaking wet hair which has been previously deep condition. This can help to retain the softeness achieved by the deep conditioning

Deal or Dud : My Review

Keep in mind this is a personal review for me. My hair is a 4B, when I 1st got this I did not care for it much, I would much rather use my $30 flat iron with a heating dial so I could turn it up to 350 degrees :-( Yes I know. My hair would still be thick and would not be very sleek or blow in the wind....Then I would have given this 2 stars, simply because you can flat iron it while your hair is wet.
Since beginning my HHJ, of course with the co-washing, and moisutrizing my hair is now soft and manageable on its on, so the Instyler worked just wonders...because it is so big I had a hard time getting really close to my scalp for newgrowth so I did use my regular flat iron for the top, other than that, I had no frizz, no stiffness, and what is even better it left a nice "bump" or curl to it. Does it possess a special qualtiy outside of a regular bumper, IDK, but since beginning my HHJ I was very satisfied with my Instyler.

Upon research I did see that the croc iron, had a substantial amount of better reviews than the Intyler so that (the Croc flat iron) will be my next investment. It is also cheaper, I do believe, I will later give a comparison between the two, resulting in the better deal :-)

Has anyone of you used either the InStyler or Croc iron, if so please share your thoughts on it!!!

Current Look :-)

I told you all that I was a fan of big hair, long hair, and curly hair...While Creta Girl is ALLLLLL of that....This is one of my all time fav!!

She last a long time (a month) which is pretty good for a synthetic piece...she looks very real!!! (as in human hair) My 1st time wearing her I had at least 4 women ask me what kind of hair this was....and I am not shamed one bit to say its a half wig :-) I literally had to like just leave her lying around the floor to get her to get frizzy and messy...I thought she would never go!! LOL So she is my "Staple" I guess u can say...I always keep her around, when she frizzes and tangles up on me, I just go and repurchase her :-)

Sex & Hair!?!?!??

So as u know I straightened my hair :-) Well I had it all wrapped up and was in bed!! My husband comes in wanting mama's loving as usual and he takes my head wrap and throws it off :-/ Lol of course I didn't say anything but for a mili second my mind went off of the loving to "OMG I KNOW THIS NEGRO DIDN'T!!! WHERE IS MY SATIN PILLOW?? GOD I HOPE THIS DOES NOT HURT MY ENDS:-(" Soon that was all out the window but right after I got up, remoisturized & wrapped my hair!!! I must admit I did feel proud as he ran his fingers through my super soft & tangle free hair!!! Usually I'm self conscious and embarrassed by my super frizzy broken ends, hair all over my head!! Ugh oh & the many nights I was to lazy to get up & rewrap it so I just laid all over it & put heat on it the next day!! YAYY TO IMPROVEMENT!!! lol Just had to share with my hair divas that my thoughts shifted during an intimate moment with the boo lol a woman & hair no one shall come in between:-)

Saturday, July 23, 2011

So I decided to give myself a heat pass just to see what my hair looked like!!! I realized I really never straighten my hair & this was the 1st time I've put heat on it since my last relaxer.
I don't put heat on it bc it is thick & usually takes FOREVER & I NEVER get the results I want it always still stiff & just ugh!

This day I prepoo'd for about 30 minutes, washed, DC'd for wow like 5 hours, I fell asleep lol & then let it air dry.
I straightened using the InStyler & it was a breeze, 3 months post relaxer & this was the outcome!!! It even blew in the breeze:-)  my ends even look good!!! Now I see that Aphogee 2 minute Reconstructor is truly BOMB!!!!  I will enjoy this until my next wash then wrap it up & rock a wig :-)

Look Of The Day & An "Ah Ha" Moment

Soooo I had a lazy day :-/ When I got home from work I moistrized and sealed my hair...also I massaged my scalp, but I was too lazy to re-twist it, so I just threw on the bonnet....woke up for work, moisturized again and threw it in a sloppy bun!!!
You can't really see it in the pic but I have two 2 strand twist criss crossing up in the back...just to be creative.

My HHJ has truly lifted my self esteem. I remember when I felt obligated to wear weave to look decent...but here I am 15-16 weeks post relaxer and 3 weeks post weave!! (thats on a daily basis, like work, shopping ect) I still wear wigs to parties and such...but I am so happy...It just feels good to be taking care of my hair, so what if it isn't "fly or flashy" it is on its way to restored health, and most importantly IT IS NOT NAPPY!!! LOL My aunt ran her fingers threw my twist out the other day to be surprised that her fingers did not get caught up or blocked hehehe...I used to feel so plain jane, or uncomfortable if I pulled my own hair back because it wasn't long or exciting, but today I'm just having an "ah ha" moment and can't stay out of the mirror :-)) all is well in the land of hair!!! I just have to get back on my water game...I've been slacking.

Lastly I want to thank all of you, my fellow "Hairlistas" for blogging and sharing your journey, if it wasn't for me stumbling upon your blogs, I would not have the motivation or education...and I'd still be in a rut...Our hair truly is our crown...OUR hair...not the indian's hair or horses lol and I'm not knocking weave, bc I am a former weave-ologist...lol but still take care of your hair underneath. Caring for my hair now has changed my whole world, and i am NOT over exaggerating.
In MY HEALTHY HAIR JOURNEY'S blog she states that she is "Loving her hair!" When I 1st saw her blog and saw her length, I assumed that is why she loved her hair...who wouldn't, and I thought, I can't wait until my hair grows, and I can love my hair too lol....As stated before I am about 15 weeks post relaxer, new to this journey, haven't even been a month in, no length checks or any of that and I can truly say that I am loving my hair!!!! I feel so foolish to embark this journey so late, but better late than never...and if it wasn't for you ladies, I still wouldn't know which way to go...as the saying goes "When you know better, you do better"
Hope you all had a good morning, afternoon, and evening...nighties dolls :-)

Wish List

So of course I just loaded up on new hair care products...but I'm a newbie so of course I MUST be a product whore...or err I mean junkie!!! LOL Anywho a while ago a friend told me about the Mizani hair care line but I wrote her off thinking she just had "good hair"....I have done the research and checked out the reviews of Mizani H2O
over night treatment!!! OMG I am SOOOOO excited to get it and try it...I did the same with Hair One, which turned out to be a success :-D

Straight Off of Mizani-usa.com:

Great but for one flaw........... June 11, 2009
Reviewer: PiercedPikachu (NYC)

I would have given this 5 stars but for ONE small flaw: the smell!!!
don't get me wrong; the product is PHENOMENAL and regular usage will transform damaged or rough hair to health but it's OVERLY FRAGRANT!!! it's like choking on roses. other than that it's a great product

SO THANKFUL... April 28, 2010
Reviewer: Bleached With Breakage (Minneapolis MN)
I'm just so thankful i found mention of this stuff on the hair boards before all of my bleached, heat damaged hair fell off my head... I was experiencing so much breakage and nothing would stop it, I finally broke down and bought this along with the rose H2O Cream hairdressing and the rest is history... The breakage LITERALLY stopped overnight, and im sure the condition of my hair will improve beautifully over the next few weeks. I also purchased the Mizani oil sheen for a whopping total of 50 bucks(OUCH!) but each product compliments the other quite well : ) Its also exciting to see Mizani products in my local target!

PHENOMENAL February 26, 2011
Reviewer: Happy Customer

The Mizani night time treatment totally exceeded my expectations! I have naturally thin hair that is more prone to breakage, and it doesn't help that I workout everyday! Every other night I take a small amount of the cream and rub it through my hair then I wrap it. My hair is much more shinier and more manageable! The smell... well lets just say you have to build a tolerance for it, but it's WELL worth it! I have been using the product for a little over two weeks now and I already see results, plus the delivery was speedy(thanks Target)!

MY HAIR THANKS ME October 21, 2010
Reviewer: easy to comb mom "anna f" (bradenton, fl)

this is light and easy to apply, just after a few days i have already seen the difference in my hair. its shiny, more manageable and and a lot less split ends. i am also using it on my girls hair and have seen improvements. i love the mizani products, its great for all hair types-- its the only product i know that helps my 7 yr old kinky hair-- it makes hair softer and easier to comb through

Hair Journal Entry #2

So today I co washed with V05 Milky Moisture (I alternate between that and Hair One), DC with Roots of Nature Recontructor Conditioner, I then used a boar brush to distribute the conditioner...LESSON LEARNED...BIGGEST MISTAKE EVERRRRRR I thought the boar brush would be safe, equivalent to using a wide tooth comb but from the little balls at the end I could HEAR my hair snapping, breaking :-( I was so sad.

Not alot came out in the brush (afterwards I checked to see if it was alot of hair in the brush) but just knowing that I was breaking my hair really hurt my soul. But like any new adventure you have to learn by trial and error, I will definitely be purchasing a wide tooth comb ASAP!!!

Purchases!!!

So I began my HHJ on July 5th...and started out with nothing but my Roots of Nature products, DC,oil, & moisturizer (which is extra greasy and heavy)
Just keeping up with my purchaces and my thoughts on them:

Wednesday July 6:
Vo5- co wash....love the smell and it seemed to keep my hair soft. I have only used it once, so far. But I plan to use it interchangeably with Hair One.

Pantene Original Moisture Shampoo- I bought this but have not used it, and doubt if I will...unless absolutely under desperate measures.

Optimum 3 in 1 Moiturizer- LOVE THIS!!! Compared to Roots of Nature, it is light weight, does it's job and I just love!! Simply love!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Friday July 8

HAIR ONE Cleanser- Vo5 is cool...but HAIR ONE IS AWESOME!!!! It feels good as I am washing, really creamy and smooth:-) Aftwerwards it leave my hair super soft!! I am in love!!! Definitely adding it to the staple list!!

Hair One Frizz Control It has a nice smell to it!! My hair when doing the twist outs, was not frizzy so I am crediting it towards the frizz control doing its job :-)

Aphogee 2 Minute Recontructer- I have not worn my hair down or straight since so I really cannot tell the total effect of this, but I have used it twice, and plan to continue, because I've heard great things. I don't plan on actually wearing my own hair out or straight, or relaxing for a while. So I will continue to use this until I do relax and see the results :-)

Aphogee Vitpro Leave in Conditioner- I prefer cream conditioners, this is liquid, cream seems to make my hair softer, smoother, with this being liquid, when adding it to my already wet hair, I really cany tell the difference. I will alternate this with the HAIR ONE as a leave in as well. But I will not be purchasing anymore after it is used up.

Beyond The Zone Scruncher Before attempting the twist out, I originally just planned to scrunch my hair, and have some help keeping the scrunch without it being hard...this is not the product. This is mainly a spritz...bummer, but it was a spontaneous buy, since they didn't carry Fantasia Polisher Gel.

Small Perm Rods 2packs, to twist the ends of my twists. I was so excited to buy these because I have never bought anything for my hair, except an instyler and hair dryer...but those are normal so they don't count lol next I plan to buy I head dryer!! I will have my own lil salon at home!!! LOL!!!

Creta Girl!!!!

Remember how excited I was to get her??? LOL Well she is really A LOT of hair!!! I can't maintain lol I did a braid out on my hair in the front to blend with the half wig..... and I just pinned hair back to style her and tame the hair at the same time!!! LOL

HAIR CHALLENGE!!!!!!

So I haven't posted in a few days, mainly because I was wearing the twist out, oiling and moisturizing daily, nothing much to update on that. So today my hair felt dry, so I decided to wash it with HAIR ONE which puts my hair in like hair heaven!!! I LOVE IT!!!! It makes my normally coarse hair so smooth and my new growth, which I have about an inch and a half of,very manageable. I was really enjoying the twist outs, and wearing my real hair...when I ran upon a 6 month hair challenge on blackhairmedia.com.
This is the link:

Rules are to hide your hair length from now until December, given a hair break every two months I think!

I am already 3 months post and I planned on relaxing in October, but I love the sound of a challenge, if I can go through with it this will actually put me at 9 months post!! I am super excited about it!!!

So I washed with HAIR ONE & DC with Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructer, afterwards I used 3 squirts of the HAIR ONE as a leave in conditioner, just because I loved how soft my hair was after the wash!!!..... I let it air dry, then I moisturized with Optimums 3 in 1 moisturizer, and sealed with Roots of Nature Shea Butter Green Tea Oil <---- Does that count as the sealing oil you guys refer to such a jojoba, coconut, olive, ect?? Or do I need to buy another oil. I just had that before my HHJ, so I just used it...anywhoo I brushed it back in a pony tail and put on a drawstring afro puff ponytail!! No gel, no jam, no nothing 3 months post perm, I'd say this is pretty alright:-)

Dust Off & Try Again Twist Out 2nd Try

SOOOO I researched more & saw the suggestion to add perm rods to hold the twist & add curl. I also did smaller twist. Sprayed with Hair One frizz Control & Rock Out Scrunch spray & let them stay in over night!!!

This is After taking the rods out!!!

I LOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!! I unraveled and split each twist as small as they were, into FOUR strands!!!!  And sprayed some oil sheen on it!! WaaaLAH!!!! ya like??? I'm super excited about it!!

First Attempt Results

My 1st attempt I did the 2 min Aphogee conditioning after washing with Hair One & just did the basic twisting as you seen in the first pic.... This is my result. I was satisfied but could have done better...

Cheaper brand that create the same results. Healthy hair!!

I also got scrunch spray which is pretty much just a spritz won't be using that much but
I did try a twist out & sprayed it on my twists afterwards!!

Roots of Nature Moisturizer

Sooooooooooo I told you that I felt it made my hair feel really oily, but I thought I'd just put to much in.
After co washing yesterday I parted my hair in 4 sections and applied Optimums 3 in 1 & it is much better
Light weight but really moisturizer.

Anywho I tried Roots of Nature on my sons hair bc he is 4a also and really dry
And it did the same for him. It really felt greasy, grimy, & heavy! The smell isn't to my liking either,
So I don't think I will be repurchasing this

This is my back, neck length. Ultimate goal is mid back...loooong way to go but I will do it!!!

Hair Journal Entry 1

So today I went and got more supplies, all inexpensive drug store products for now, since I hadn't really prepared for this, but excited to care for my hair NOW!!!

So I went and got V05 for a co-wash, altho my ultimate goal is to switch to WEN or Hair One. I've heard good about Hair One, a cheaper alternative to WEN, so I will see if Hair One works for me 1st. Hopefully it will.

I also got more Roots of Nature Shea Butter Oil, I've been using that and I like it. I can use it to seal.

I also have Optimum Oil Therapy 3-in-1 Oil Moisturizer, will try this as a moisturizer because Roots of Nature, moisturizer left my hair feeling really heavy and greasy. IDK maybe I put to much on it.

I'm really trying to pay attention to my hair now.

So I co washed today with the V05, and moisterized, & sealed. I also mixed all of that in a spary bottle with spring water just to mist as needed.

I had to work tonight tho so I couldn't leave it out, so I braided it. I know having 4A hair is fragile, and I hated having to braid it wet because I could literally feel some of my shafts breaking :-(

So I do not plan on co-washing again until Sunday. So I will leave my braids alone until then, unless oiling scalp or misting.

But I will say also that afterwards, my hair/head felt so light and tingly and just happy. I guess from the new found attention. Usually I just lay around the house all day, hair all over my head, throw it in a short pony and toss a wig on it. It would be dry, brittle...I just didn't care :-(. She was a happy head today :-)

I plan on getting long box braids pretty soon, so I can just leave my hair alone and let it grow.

My HAIR!!!!!!

The picture on the left is a picture of me a few months ago, before I considered a regimen. It's about 2-4 weeks post relaxer (and salon servicing) meaning my hair probably hadn't been washed in that long.

The picture to your right is the beginning of my regimen, well my care. This is before I really had any products so this is just a wash with Motions neutralizing shampoo, Deep condition with Roots of Nature w/ Shae Butter, as well as moturizing...I did not have any oil, so I sealed it with BB Oil Sheen.

Learning To Braid

I do NOT know how to braid...lol so this is my 1st attempt. Before I tried braiding cornrows straight down the back but I just could not get in a comfortable position to do so. SO I did like my great grandmother does lol, and I parted my in an intersecting part, creating 4 sections of hair. I braided to going back...the back braids, and 2 going down the side of my head, the top braids. Then I routed the top braids to the back, creating 2 small pony tails. I then took the ends of the tow pony tails and pinned them down to the back of my head (nape area)....a placed a wig cap down, and wore Cleopatra on top :-)

Keep in mind this was my 1st attempt at braiding, so I make some errors, but I definitely plan on keeping on trying and documenting my progess :-D

Wigging

Right now I am wearing wigs until my hair is in healthier condition. This is Cleopatra by Milkyway Weavemaster I do believe. She is human hair, 12 inches, sheds a bit, but I love her none the less. She is actually a bit boring for my taste I like lots of curls, but she is my work hair.I cut mine into layers just for a touch of style, My sophisticated and professional look.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

To start off I plan on co-washing once a week for 4 weeks...and deep conditoning every two.

I have heard good things about Hair One as a co-wash, and I currently use Nature Roots deep conditioner, mosturizer, and oil...which all I really like so I will stay with them, for now.

So as I understand it, I should co wash, mosturize, then seal with oil...that's it right??

Then I will braid my hair down, and wear wigs, as I have done for almost 3 years now, only I would never take care of my real hair, I just laid around on it, and treated it like trash :-(

Will update in two weeks as to how these products work for my hair.

My Hair Care Today!

My hair care today is pretty much none exitent. I wash when it gets so dirty that it itches, because I am lazy...I dont want to have to straighten afterwards so I try to stretch out what the beautician has done. I dont even go to the shop regularly...the longest I have gone without washing my hair is about 2 or 3 months. I am relaxed...get a relaxer as needed sometimes trying to do it myself...it has recently been cut into a short asym bob. Pics I will post in a bit...
